Mir Abdul Matin
Project Manager
Integrated Data and Information System |
Mir Abdul Matin is a Bangladeshi National currently
the Project Manager of IDIS. He is an expert in Information and database
management joined IWMI in May 2007. He has previously been working for CEGIS a
Center of Excellence in Bangladesh for applying GIS, remote sensing and
database technology for water and natural resources management.
He holds M.Sc in Mathematics from Dhaka University,
Bangladesh, M.Sc. in Integrated Map and Geo-Information Production from ITC,
Netherlands and MBA in Digital technology Management from Royal Roads
University, British Columbia, Canada. He has over 15 years of experience in
Design and implementation of complex large database, Geo-Information sharing,
system analysis, MIS development, Spatial analysis, remote sensing, GIS based
application development, web GIS development and development of decision
support system,
Matin has wide range of professional training on
GIS/RS software including ArcGIS, ArcView, Erdas Imagine. He is trained on
programming languages including Visual basic and C++ and database including MS
SQL Server and ORACLE. He is an ESRI authorized trainer for “Introduction to
ArcView GIS” and “Working with ArcView Spatial Analyst” courses and Oracle
certified internet application developer (OCP)
He has been involved in promoting GIS technology
in Bangladesh. He trained more than 500 trainees from different government
agencies, private companies and universities. He was also highly involved in
building GIS users community in Bangladesh and was the Founder General
Secretary of Bangladesh Society of GeoInformatics.

Nishath Yapa

Nishath Yapa, Sri Lankan national, working as a database administrator (DBA) at
IWMI Colombo, Sri Lanka. He joined CPW&F (Challenge program for Water &
Food) secretariat at Sri Lanka as the DBA & currently working in the
Datawarehouse project. Before joining IWMI he worked as an Oracle programmer at
John Keells Computer Systems, Sri Lanka. He qualified as an Oracle Certified
Professional, holds a Bachelors degree in Physical Science from the University
of Colombo and a diploma in Computer System Design from the National Institute
of Business Management (NIBM), Sri Lanka

Mahendra Palliyaguruge

Expertise In:
Mahendra Palliyaguruge is a Software Engineer with 7 years of software development experience in Microsoft technologies. He is also a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). He specializes in the implementation of client/server, database, graphics and internet based systems using Visual Studio .NET suite. His area of expertise include: VB.NET, ASP.NET, ASP, Java Scripts, Ajax, CSS, HTML.
He holds B.Sc (Hons) in Business Computing Degree at University of Wolverhampton, UK. IWMI, she was a lecturer at IDM Computer Studies (Pvt.) Ltd. Kalaivani holds
the award of the honours degree of Bachelor of Science in Management
Information System from the University College Dublin – National University of
Ireland, Dublin & a Higher Diploma in Computer Based Information Systems
from the National Institute of Business Management, Sri Lanka.

Anjitha Senarath

Anjitha Senarath, a Sri Lankan, joined IWMI headquarters in Sri Lanka on 15th
July 2002. Prior to joining IWMI worked as a web Designing and multimedia
lecturer in Ingrin Institute of Printing and Graphics over one year. Senarath
holds a diploma in IT from the Singapore Informatics Computer Institute (SICI)
and he is reading his computer degree in University of Portsmouth, UK.
At IWMI, Senarath is involved in the Data Warehouse project, under the
supervision of Dr Marchand Pierre. Mainly he works in the DW template designing
and client side programming.. |

Asghar Hussain
Analyst GIS/RS |
Expertise In:

4. Web based Maping Specialist
Asghar Hussain, a native Pakistani with a master’s in computer sciences, joined
IWMI Pakistan in 1989. Since then he has worked in many areas of IWMI Pakistan,
ranging from data collection on water Salinity, water logging, Topography &
Hydraulic surveying. From there, Asghar moved in to work on GIS Spatial data
analysis & management for Indus basin water Management Project. Asghar is
the lead GIS Analyst for IWMI Pakistan. And has worked on organizing &
managing GIS datasets for data collected during the last 14 years. In addition,
Asghar is also the resident expert in web based mapping applications. He has
hands-on experience with Minnesota map server, Demis map server and ArcIMS. And
has also developed the first Geo-Web interface to make IWMI geo-spatial data
available on the internet.He is the member of Pakistan society of geographic
information system (PSGIS) and also the member of Geo-informatics education and
training society (GETS) NL and Pakistan.

Ata Ur Rehman
Software Engineer |
Expertise In:

3. Database development (MS SQL Server 2005, MS Access
etc)
Ata a Pakistani National joined IWMI (International
Water Management Institute) Pakistan in March 2002. Before joining IWMI he
completed his M.Sc in Computer Sciences from The University of Lahore, Lahore.
He was with IWMI-Pakistan RS/GIS group from March 2002. In IWMI Ata was
involved in different projects, started with Integrated Database Development
for River Basins, then involved in PHLC Operation Support project for
development of an Optimization Model for PHLC-USC System. From 2003 he was
working on CPWF (Challenge Program on Water & Food) Database Development
and Data Management for 13 River basins world-wide.
His responsibilities were:
1. Development of Web-Portal for Integrated Database
development.
2. Online GIS development / web mapping applications
development
3. Installation of IDIS nodes in different basins:
successfully installed Limpopo Basin node in Agriculture Research Council,
Pretoria South Africa. That node is actively linked with main database node in
IWMI head office Colombo Sri Lanka.
After almost 6 years of his job with IWMI, he left in

Chaminda Pradeep

Chaminda P. Herath, Sri Lankan nation,
joined IWMI headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 1st of June 2006. Prior to
Joining IWMI, He was a trainee at IWMI. Chaminda holds a Degree in Agriculture
and Plantation management (Specialized in Agribusiness Management) from Wayamba
University of Sri Lanka. Chaminda Following a Diploma in Computer System Design
from National Institute of Business Management (NIBM).

Dr Francis Gichuki
CP Theme Leader
Integrated Basin Water Management Systems |
Francis Gichuki is the leader of IDIS
project. He is also the leader of Challenge Program on Water and Food (CPWF),
Integrated Basin Water Management Systems (IBWMS) theme. He is a Kenyan
national with extensive experience in soil and water management, irrigation,
drainage, river basin management and data and information management. He joined
IWMI Global Research Division in September 2002. Prior to joining IWMI, he
taught at the University of Nairobi and also served as a Regional Coordinator
of a post-graduate training program on soil and water management. He holds a
PhD in agricultural and irrigation engineering from Utah State University,
Logan, Utah, USA.

Hasantha Dahanayaka

Hasantha has experience in

Hasantha Erandi Dahanayaka, Sri Lankan national,
joined IWMI Headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 9th of November 2006.she
followed the course Business Communication and Information Technology at LIBM
Campus. Presently following Higher National certificate(HNC) and Higher
National Diploma(HND) Edexcel International UK at LIBM Campus. Hasantha is
following Programming VB course in IDM.

Jeyakumaran Subramaniam

Subramaniam Jeyakumaran, known as Kumaran within the
team members and office staffs. He worked at IWMI from June 2002 to May 2006
and attached with IDIS team from May 2004 to May 2006. He read his degree at
University of Colombo in Computer Science. He’s a member of British Computer
Society.

Lakmali Wijesinghe, Sri Lankan national, joined IWMI Headquarters in Colombo,
Sri Lanka on 01st August 2001. Prior to joining IWMI, she was a lecturer at
Vantage Technologies (Pvt.) Ltd, for 1 year. Lakmali holds a Diploma in
Software Engineering. At IWMI, Lakmali is involved in Metadata activities and
provides Metadata services to IWMI Data warehouse project with Pierre Marchand
and the ETL team.

Mohideen A. M. Sadir

Sadir Mohideen, a Sri Lankan national,
joined IWMI on August 1st 2000, having Thirteen years experience in Software
Development as a Programmer, System Analyst, Systems Network Administrator and
Web Software Development Engineer. Highly experienced in dynamic
database-driven web development environments. Expertise with Visual Studio.NET
using all its features such as Framework, Win Forms, User Controls, Server site
Controls, Web Forms and Components.
Also show proficiency with ASP, VB, .NET technologies, XML, HTML and
client/server activities. Also having good working experience in MS SQL Server
7.0/2000, MS Access, PostgreSQL, Sybase, MySQL and Operating systems such as
DOS, Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/2003 and Linux.
Internet Development Environment skills: ASP.NET, Web Matrix (ASP.NET), VB.NET,

Dr Pierre Marchand
Spatial Data Warehouse Architect |
Pierre
Marchand, a Belgian national, joined
IWMI Global
Research Division in August 2003. Prior to coming to
IWMI, he
worked for
GEOIDE the
Canadian Network of Centers of Excellence in Geomatics. Earlier Pierre served
in international consultancies for private, government and international
organizations. Pierre holds a Ph.D. in GIS and data warehousing from the
Center for Research in Geomatics,
Québec, Canada. He is also a rural engineer and agronomist from the Gembloux Faculty of Agricultural
Sciences, Belgium. For the last 10
years Pierre has successfully applied his expertise and skills in GIS, data
warehousing, business intelligence, databases, spatial databases and very large
databases (VLDB) to numerous domains such as forestry, transport, agriculture,
irrigation, health, environmental health, topography, geodesy and civil
engineering. In
IWMI Pierre
leads and coordinates the IDIS group into developing and implementing IDIS as
well as providing first class support and services to
IWMI and
CPWF researchers
and their teams. He also provides database, IT and knowledge management
leadership to
IWMI in
various projects ranging from entreprise security & business continuity to
SAP and HR systems. Pierre is the founder and moderator of the globally
acclaimed
Applied-GIS-RS mailing list.
He is also a founding member of
Slashgeo.org,
the premier source of news in Geomatics. |

Praveen Noojipady, a Indian National, Joined IWMI Headquarters in Colombo, Sri
Lanka on 9th of August, 2004. Prior to joining IWMI, he was a Research
Assistant at Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Ecological
Economics Unit, Bangalore, India for 7 months. Praveen holds a Masters degree
in Water Resources Engineering and a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from
Bangalore University, India.
At IWMI, Praveen is involved in building up of Geo Spatial Metadata for RS GIS
Unit.
